Description : BACKGROUND
Ongoing support is needed to identify and address the health system gaps in the delivery of clinical NCD services at these health care facilities, and to support health workers in the use of the clinical guidelines in the management of major NCDs following the PEN protocols.
PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY
Noncommunicable diseases are the leading cause of death in the Pacific Islands. The early identification and effective management of NCDs through primary health care is critical to the reduction in mortality and complications from NCDs. Guidance exists through the WHO`s Package of Essential Health Services in Primary Health care (PEN) and through related guidelines on diabetes and high blood pressure which can be adapted to country contexts.
