Fluxys Belgium nv. constructs, manages and operates an infrastructure for high-pressure gas transmission by pipeline in Belgium. Actually, this network is about 4 200 km long.
The technical and administrative data for this network are given in a database which is used by various departments in the company. This database — which is spatial — plays a key role in the operation of the pipeline network. This means that a lot of importance is attached to the accuracy of the data.
The 3-dimensional aspect of the database is mainly the result of topographical surveys. Fluxys Belgium nv mainly uses external surveyors to conduct these surveys.
The tasks involving new and/or existing Fluxys Belgium nv pipelines and substations may include:
(a) terrestrial site survey and mapping of new and/or changed topography;
