xUV Monochromator Prototype (Sx-700)
---
As one of 18 centers of the Helmholtz community, the HZB employs around 1, 100 employees-including around 800 in Berlin-Wannsee and 300 in Berlin-Adlershof-and has an overall budget of around 110 million euros. The HZB works closely with theUniversities and universities of applied sciences in Berlin-Brandenburg.
For research work on the structure and function of the matter, the HZB operates a major scientific device: the electronic storage ring Bessy II, which high-brilliant synchrotron radiation from Terahertz to the x-ray areacreated. The system serves to research the matter and has highly specialized sample environments, i.e. h. Here experiments can be carried out under the most demanding conditions (high magnetic fields, low temperatures, high pressures). The further development of this unique instrumentbelongs to the main tasks of the center.
With its user service, the HZB enables around 3, 000 external scientists (from 35 countries to date) to access the sometimes unique measurement methods.
The HZB operates two other large devices for external institutions:
a) for theCharite an accelerator with which proton rays for Augentumor therapy are generated (in Wannsee) and
b) the metrology light source (MLS), an optimized storage ring for the physical-technical federal institution (in Adlershof).
The implementation of sustainable energy supply ise...
