The Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG (HGK) must adapt the existing ports to the new generation of ships. The modern ships have a capacity of up to 10, 000 t, almost 10 times more than the ships from the 1960s. The new requirements not only require increasing loading and storage capacities, but also strengthening the quay facilities.
