With Article 1 No. 4 of the second regulation amending the Occupational Diseases Ordinance - BKV of December 18, 1992, dangers "due to long-term lifting or carrying of heavy loads or through long-term activities in an extreme flexed trunk position" were included with the inclusion of occupational disease No. 2108 generally recognized as a possible cause of an intervertebral disc-related disease of the lumbar spine. The BGW has been offering the BGW Back College since 1994. The content and efficiency of the back college were continuously evaluated, optimized and adapted for new groups of insured people.

At the BGW Back College is a sustainable and individual program for secondary individual prevention - SIP of work-related spinal diseases.

The program currently takes place at two locations: in the BG Klinikum Hamburg and in the BGW Back College in the Charlottencenter in Halle (Saale). In cooperation with the BG Kliniken, this offer has been made available by the client since 1994.

The target group of this measure are nursing staff with lumbar spine complaints in clinics and in inpatient and outpatient nursing and geriatric care who constantly carry out their hazardous work but also insured people from other professional fields.
