Understanding the social vulnerabilities of the coastalcommunities is crucial for developing effective adaptation strategies andensuring equitable and inclusive development within the context of the emergingBlue Economy. The PROBLUE Nigeria BE Framework aims to improve integratednatural resources management for a climate-resilient and inclusive blue economyin Nigeria. As part of this initiative, a Social Vulnerability AssessmentReport of Coastal Communities will be developed. This assessment will be undertakenas part of the World Bank-managed PROBLUE Trust Fund, aimed at supporting thesustainable and integrated development of marine and coastalresources. The primary objectives of this assessment are to:Identify and analyze the social vulnerabilities of coastalcommunities in Nigeria. This includes assessing their exposure to variousrisks, their sensitivity to these risks, and their capacity to cope and adapt.Develop a comprehensive understanding of the social, economic, and environmental factors that contribute to vulnerability. Thismay include factors such as poverty, food insecurity, limited access toresources, lack of education and healthcare, and exposure to environmentalhazards.Identify vulnerable groups within coastalcommunities. This may include women, children, the elderly, people withdisabilities, indigenous communities, and other marginalized groups.Develop recommendations for addressing the identifiedvulnerabilities. These recommendations should be practical, feasible, andtailored to the specific needs and contexts of the target communities.Inform the development of the National BlueEconomy Framework by providing data and insights on the social dimensionsof coastal development.
