Replacement forest in the Eastern Hill Country natural area The Kiel Canal Waterways Construction Authority (WNA NOK) is planning to build a long-term storage facility for dredged material, soil material and other mineral materials from the Kiel Canal and from the Expansion project at the NOK with a maximum storage period of 3 years for each material delivered at Lake Flemhuder on a total area of around 75 hectares. The aim of the long-term storage facility at the Flemhude location is to establish a central operation for treatment and recycling and interim storage of the materials mentioned and to ensure its operation in the long term and close to the canal. To set up a long-term storage facility, we worked with the responsible pollution control authority of the state of Schleswig-Holstein - State Office for Environment (LfU) - stipulates that corresponding usage permits are required as part of an approval process under emissions control law (BImSchG).
