GABON Gabon is a country in Central Africa known for its high forest cover and low deforestation as well as rich biodiversity and substantial endemism. More than 88% of Gabon's surface area is still forested. Recent analyzes carried out in Central Africa highlight the contrisubstantial contribution of the Gabonese territory to the safeguarding of regional/global biodiversity, with strongholds for forest elephants, gorillas and chimpanzees, in particular thanks to the large forests still intact. However, these forests are increasingly threatened by infrastructure.structures, agriculture and land-use change, as well as through the unsustainable extraction of natural resources such as minerals, timber and bushmeat leading to deforestation and forest degradation, including global loss of forests. wildlife andflora, resulting in a decline in biodiversity and a significant increase in total carbon emissions. In order to face these challenges, the government of Gabon began the implementation in 2022 of the project "Transformation of forest landscape governance in the corridoror landscape of Bas Ogooue - Bas Nyanga, Gabon" financed by cycle 7 of the Global Environment Fund (GEF). The project is implemented by the General Directorate of Environment and Nature Protection (DGEPN) under the auspices of the Gabonese Ministry of Water, Forests, Sea and E.nenvironment, Manager of the Climate Plan and Land Use Plan (MINEFE), with support from UNDP Gabon. This Gabon forest conservation project is one of seven projects under the Congo Impact Program, which is itself part of the GEF Sustainable Management Impact Program.able of forests. It therefore aims to conserve large areas of high conservation value (HVS) and high carbon stock (HSC) forest landscapes in two catchments of national importance, in particular by catalyzing action towards more sustainable governance. inclusive of countriesforest management and strengthening environmental monitoring in targeted landscapes. UNDP Gabon, in collaboration with MINEFE, is seeking to recruit a national gender expert to ensure that gender considerations are fully integrated in all relevant activitiestests of the project, to produce a participatory gender analysis, revise the project's gender action plan and strengthen the capacities of the Project Management Unit (PMU) and partners. The duration of the mission is estimated at approximately 80 working days over a period of 07 months.
