Expression of Interest are invited for Procure and Distribute Ethanol Clean Cook-Stoves under Project "Scaling up Bioethanol as a Clean Alternate Fuel for Cooking in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania
Approximately 3 billion people lack access to clean cooking solutions and 85% of this global population lives in 20 high impact countries which includes “anzania. The baseline study for Tanzania shows that more than 80% of its population depends on traditional hiomass as their primary energy source for cooking in households. The common cooking devices widely used in Tanzania are traditional three-stone fire wood, metal charcoal stoves, improved charcoal stoves •and kerosene stoves which produce smoke and soct.
While fuels for cooking arc relatively diverse (firewood, charcoal, kerosene, electricity, cow dung, crop residues, wood processing residues, etc.), wood based biomass fuels clearly stand out as the most utilized in the 20 high impact countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) reports, some of these typical cooking fuels can produce significant amounts of smoke anc prolonged exposure can bo associated with respiratory infections, eye damage, and heart and lung diseases, which leads to approximately 4 million deaths annually in the world.
UNIDO is implementing a European Union (EU) Cook Fund project sub-component focused on ethanol cooking in Dar es Salaam in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania. The approved EU project under its biomass energy strategy for Tanzania aims to promote bio ethanol as alternative clean cooking fuel by creating a market-enabling environment for the introduction of 500, 000 bio-ethanol fueled stoves in Dar es Salaam and production and distribution of the bioethanol fuel.
Under this initiative.
UNIDO is soliciting an Expression of Interest (EOI) from suitable qualified distribution companies or consortia of companies, for the procurement and distribution of 175, 000 subsidized ethanol clean cookstoves to households in Oar es Salaam.
