The municipality of Lotte operates the mechanical-biological central sewage treatment plant (KA) in Wersen (commissioned in 1987) for domestic wastewater from the districts of Büren, Halen and Wersen. Current operation: simultaneous aerobic sludge stabilization with intermittent Nitrification/denitrification. The aim is to convert the process to anaerobic sludge stabilization with primary clarification and digestion including energetic utilization of the digester gas.
