Brief description of the project: As the client, das Stadtwerk.Regensburg GmbH intends to build a daycare center with around 100 childcare spaces on the existing parking garage at Dachauplatz in Regensburg's old town. The site is within the UNESCO World Heritage area "Old town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof" and therefore places special demands on urban development, design and monument preservation. The requirements of the city of Regensburg in connection with the UNESCO World Heritage area "Old Town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof" must be observed. The aim of the project is to create additional childcare spaces in the city center area through an innovative densification concept. A feasibility study carried out has confirmed that the existing parking garage is predestined for densification and the construction of a daycare center on the top parking decks is fundamentally feasible. The spatial program includes four kindergarten groups as well as additional common, ancillary and staff rooms. There are also spacious, secured outdoor play areas with a minimum size of 10 m2 per child. When planning, particular aspects of accessibility, fire protection, acoustics, energy efficiency and sustainability must be taken into account.
