The city of Bad Kissingen's wastewater treatment plant is converting its energy supply network to renewable energies. The goal of the new operating model for the wastewater treatment plant is to completely replace the use of natural gas as a fossil fuel and to supply it of electricity from the public power grid as much as possible. The purchase of electricity from the public power grid should be minimized by using our own photovoltaic system on the roofs and open spaces of the sewage treatment plant. The digester gas storage is to be expanded and adapted to the new operating model, which will result in increased use of the digester gas generated by the company. This enables an improvement in self-consumption optimization and the degree of self-sufficiency through the use of the CHP. This measure is intended to create the prerequisites for the electrical integration of a heat pump and ultimately make it electrical be integrated. The heat pump is intended to use the thermal energy from the treated wastewater to replace the fossil share of heat generation in an innovative and future-oriented manner.
