New building of the Catholic Sophienschule (KSS) in Hamburg - permanent installations Sponsored by the Archdiocese of Hamburg, a total of 15 schools are operated across the Hamburg city area and are currently looking towards the future as part of the school development plan developed. At the location of the Catholic Sophienschule in Hamburg Barmbek-Süd, Elsastraße 46, a new school building was built by the end of 2025 after the dilapidated existing school building was demolished. The three-story building with a partial basement complements the listed ensemble of the St. Sophien Catholic Church and the St. Johannis Dominican Monastery located at the location. School operations began in March 2026 in the new school building. The new building with around 4, 050 m² of usable space is tailored to a three-class primary school with a two-class preschool for a total of around 350 school children. The Sankt Sophien daycare center with 4 groups and around 80 children will be integrated into the ground floor of the new building. The one used for school Part of the ground floor is accessed from the schoolyard, which is centrally located between the church and the school, via a spacious foyer with an open staircase and another staircase with an elevator.
