Biodiversity Credits or Nature Credits are financial instruments with which the positive effects of measures in the area of nature conservation or the restoration of ecosystems are to be certified, certified - and may be made tradable - with the aim of private investments mobilize. In addition to the opportunities for the generation of additional private funds for nature conservation through this instrument, but also criticisms, risks and ambiguities are also listed in the context with biodiversity and nature credits, e.g. with regard to integrity, measurability and Regulation, risks of greenwashing, the delimitation of and interdependencies to biodiversity offsets, the substitution of public funds for nature conservation and limited potential for mobilizing private means in a reasonable time frame. Regardless of this, nature or biodiversity Credits - also by naming the GBF goal 19 - received internationally in attention and the dynamic discussions and developments in relation to this economic instrument will continue to exist for the foreseeable future. With the project, several goals are pursued: 1) Preparation of the current Knowledge of Nature Credits (concepts, application, opportunities/risks and required framework conditions) 2) Evaluation of stakeholder perspectives to Nature Credits 3) Derivation of findings for Germany and Europe from the practical ANA-LYSE E-LIFE CREDITS Approaches 4) Development of actor-specific recommendations for action for German and European actors in relation to Nature Credits and 5) Evaluation of relevant developments and support for important processes and exchange formats in relation to Nature Credits, e.g. at EU level.
