Country: KazakhstanDescription of the Assignment: National Consultant on Subsidies in the Agricultural Sector Period of assignment: no more than 130 working days (tentatively August 2025 - January 2026)Place of Work: Home-basedContract type: Individual Contract PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe conflict between agriculture and biodiversity in Kazakhstan is evident in the expansion of agricultural land, especially for arable farming and grazing, which leads to the reduction of natural ecosystems and loss of habitats for many plant and animal species. Intensive land use, application of pesticides and fertilizers, as well as overgrazing, degrade soils and water bodies and disrupt ecological balance. This poses a threat to biodiversity, particularly in steppe and semi‑desert regions, where natural ecosystems are especially vulnerable. Public financing plays a key role in supporting both agriculture and biodiversity conservation in Kazakhstan, as both sectors are closely interlinked and have strategic importance for the country-s sustainable development.
