The near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (NAP-XPS) described below is intended to analyze catalyst samples (including powder catalysts, model catalysts on defined crystal surfaces) at pressures close to ambientenable pressure. In comparison to standard XPS systems, where an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) is required for the measurement, additional investigations should be carried out at system pressures in the mbar range of 30mbar or higher, for gas mixtures consisting of, among others, H2, CO, CO2, CH4, O2 and/or CH3OHbecome. The aim is an in-situ measurement of the sample surface and the molecules bound to it under reaction conditions in catalytic processes, which requires sample heating up to 800 degrees and the possibility of admitting gas mixtures into the measuring chamber. A measurement of Rreaction products in the gas phase should also be realized.
The system should also have a LEED apparatus (Low-Energy Electron Diffraction) for measuring the crystal structure of the sample surface and a preparation chamber, among other things, for sample preparation and sample cleaning.
