MPI for Biogeochemistry, Jena - Extension of the institute building: structural planning The institute building, completed at the beginning of 2003, is divided into three building parts, A, B and C, which are characterized by a cross-story entrance hall and other underground components (partly exposure via an inner courtyard). The space requirements plan for the extension essentially includes standard areas for laboratory and office use as well as special areas for the greenhouse with technical center. Due to the changed Scientific working methods require the installation of greenhouse cabins and technical center cabins within a large, connected greenhouse. This allows energy-optimized climate stability to be achieved in the individual cabins ('house-in-house principle'). The only remaining location for the extension is the area of ​​the existing greenhouse, also due to the site's sloping location. This has to be demolished due to the new scientific requirements be replaced by a new greenhouse/technical center building in connection with the extension. This also results in conversion work on and in the existing building, in the technical infrastructure and the supply and disposal lines in the ground.
