Initial situation The existing heating network supplies residential buildings via district heating as well industrial customers via a steam supply. The annual heat volumes are around 36 GWh of district heating and around 32 GWh of steam. The required peak output is around 18 MW in the district heating sector and around 11 MW in the steam supply sector. The Heat is currently generated entirely using fossil fuels. Against the background of the legal requirements for decarbonization, this results in an immediate need for transformation to ensure that it is permissible and economical in the long term sustainable network operation. 2. Regulatory project reason The construction of the wood heating plant is essentially regulatory driven. The basis is the Heat Planning Act (WPG), which requires a share of renewable energies of at least 30% by 2030 pretends. Further increases are planned by 2040 (to 80%) and 2045 (to 100%). 3. Project goal Wood heating plant The planned wood heating plant represents the first significant renewable generation unit in the transformation process.
