It is the only completely preserved Renaissance fortress building in northern Germany. The commandant's house plays a special role as the lead building for the fortress. It is next to the other buildings, the bastions and fortifications the most important single structure within the area. In addition to the very high monument value and protection, it has the greatest potential for tourist and cultural uses of the fortress. Due to long-term wear and tear and numerous structural damage, the building has been inaccessible for several years, which greatly reduces the attractiveness of the fortress.
