Tender Details
Migratory birds go through different (recurring) phases within a year (e.g. migration home, breeding season, migration, overwintering). These so-called life cycles differ not only in their temporal and spatial extent but also in that: “Life risk” in the sense of a probability of survival can be very unevenly distributed between the individual phases. Factors that reduce the likelihood that birds can complete their life (annual) cycle are conceptualized defined as a “bottleneck”. In the German EEZ, in particular, the expansion of offshore wind energy (70 GW by 2045) may be associated with adverse effects on bird migration. The explicit mention of bird migration in the law (WindSeeG) supports the facts Calculation shows that migratory birds are among the species groups that are likely to be most affected by the expansion of offshore wind energy. The main task of the project is to reconstruct the life cycles of birds found in the North Sea and Baltic Sea and studying the effects of wind power (disturbance and mortality) on life cycle closure. The relative importance of offshore wind energy as a bottleneck in the life cycle of birds will be analyzed. The method is based on the example of Birds and offshore wind power for the Application to other species groups and areas (stressor receptor systems) can be tested and made applicable. Finally, measures to eliminate bottlenecks should be developed and made as specific as possible be described. The protection of marine protected assets such as seabirds and migratory birds is a legally binding main task of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. Knowledge is central to the obligation to implement effective protection measures for seabirds and migratory birds: when, where and why threats of significance to the population exist in the life cycle and how they can be remedied. The project provides the basis and methodological tools for this. The ...
