General planning for Mainova AG water treatment plants The West Combined Heat and Power Plant (HKW West) is Mainova Aktiengesellschaft's largest generation site and represents the central generation plant of the city center district heating network. At the HKW West location Several systems are operated to generate electricity, steam and district heating. The subject of the contractual services is the HKR system at the location HKW West. The system prepares returning district heating condensate as well as machine condensate and has been in operation since 1967. Since then, the system has been regularly maintained and repaired. The project aims to modernize the entire system, the conceptual development of which is based on the results of the Feasibility study from 2021 and the completed preliminary planning from 2022. Also in this project is the construction of a new full desalination plant to replace the existing deionate production. Mainova AG operates at HKW-West a 2-street Full desalination plant in the existing building 0402F (“VE3 plant”) with a processing capacity of 80 m³/h. The demineralised water is used to make up the district heating system The factory water circuit and the water-steam circuit are required. The VE3 system was built in 1980 by Mannesmann Anlagenbau and is used to prepare drinking water into boiler feed water according to VGB-M 407 G.
