Refoplan 2023: "Legal framework for the rescue and annihilation of ammunitional loads in the North and Baltic Sea as part of the Federal Government's Sacrifice Salval Loads"

While ammunitional loads on land have been largely recovered and destroyed, in German marine waters, i.e. the coastal sea (waters of the lake down to the base line up to a border of 12 nautical miles) and the exclusive economic zone (AWZ), which is pre-accelerated, are stored around 1.6 Millions of tons of conventional ammunitional loads (mostly explosive ammunition) and around 5, 000 tons of chemical ammunition, which were sunk through military operations or afterwards in the Second World War. These not only endanger shipping, fishing, tourism, people on beaches and the sea environment, they also hinder offshore installations and the laying of sea cables.

For the rescue and annihilation of ammunitional loads in the North and Baltic Sea, the "Immediate program ammunitional loads" was included in the coalition agreement. As part of a planning and coordination project, a concept and the technical requirements for the implementation are currently ...
