Planning coordinated deterrent shootings
Short summary of the Interreg project "Fish species protection and cormorant management on Lake Constance":
International measures coordinated with all Lake Constance neighbors are intended to protect endangered fish species be increasingly promoted in the Lake Constance region. As part of the project, knowledge about endangered fish species in the region will be collected and, based on this, measures will be developed to improve their protection. The measures include ecological improvements to fish habitats also technical protective measures against cormorant damage. Data is recorded in a database and hydraulic engineering "model solutions" are developed. In order to reduce the feeding pressure by cormorants on endangered fish species, basic principles are being developed that lead to an international strategy for cormorant management aim. These also include the use of the latest drone technology to manage the cormorants' breeding. The aim is to clarify the suitability and approvability of regional measures for cormorant management and their cross-border impact.
Research work followed by Evaluation of experiences with local and temporary deterrence measures against cormorants in the Lake Constance region and in other regions of Europe. Concepts will then be developed for particularly vulnerable subpopulations of endangered fish species in the Lake Constance region developed...
