BSR operates the waste-to-energy plant (MHKW) in Ruhleben. The amount of steam generated with the residual waste as fuel is used in the neighboring Reuter power plant of Vattenfall Waerme Berlin AG to generate electricity and district heating. As part of the energy utilization project, BSR intends touhleben (EVR) to cover its own electricity requirements and the plant's internal heat requirements in the future by building a regulated extraction condensation steam turbine based on the principle of combined heat and power.
