A Assistência Integrada às Doenças da Infância (AIDI) é considerada hoje em dia como uma estratégia de prestação de cuidados de saúde eficaz e eficiente no quadro da prevenção e controlo das enfermidades imuno-preveníveis e infeciosas, sobretudo a nível comunitário, com enfoque sobre a nutrição, a malaria, a diarreia e a pneumonia. Uma avaliação de 2014 levada a cabo pela Malaria Consortium (Consórcio de luta contra a Malária), da Universidade Johns Hopkins, instituição conceituada que documenta as lições aprendidas sobre o impacto na mortalidade de programas recentemente implementados varia consideravelmente de uma estatisticamente significativa redução de 76% na mortalidade a um (não significativo) aumento de 43%, com uma redução mediana de 21%. Crê-se que muita desta aparente variação se deve a uma formulação inadequada da avaliação e do programa.
