In 2016 an integrated Action plan for the inner city of Straelen 2022 (InHK Straelen 2022) was developed in a dialogic process as the basis for inclusion in the urban development funding program “Active city and district centers”. As approaches for inner city development This includes the further development of the historic city center in the sense of a city center renovation 2.0 with additional measures in parts of the expanded city center parallel to the connection of former large-scale horticultural structures and their surroundings to the city center focused. The city center of Straelen has a town center that is characterized by the historic city layout, in which the course of the city wall and the four city gates can still be seen. To the south of the city center is the Venloer Road that acts as the main access road from the southern area.
