The University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBw M) was founded in 1973 at the request of the then Federal Minister of Defense, Helmut Schmidt, under the name "Bundeswehr University Munich". It is one of two universities that the Bundeswehr uses to train its officer candidates has young officers. The university belongs to the civilian organizational area of human resources and is assigned to the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg). On August 11, 2020, UniBw M founded a new "Center for Digitalization and Technology Research of the Bundeswehr" (dtec.bw for short). dtec.bw is part of the federal government's economic stimulus program to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and is being provided with research funds from the economic stimulus program via the BMVg. With its inclusion in the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP), dtec.bw is supported by the European Union - NextGenerationEU financed. With the "MuQuaNet" project, UniBw M intends to build a quantum communication network for testing and research purposes in the greater Munich area. The CODE research institute for cyber defense at UniBw M is researching quantum communication as part of the dtec.bw project "MuQuaNet". With the project, UniBw M aims to build a quantum communication network for testing and research purposes in the greater Munich area.
