As part of the current award, H SAF soil moisture data for the Lahn catchment area will now be assimilated into the operational, hydrological models of the BfG for the first time, with the aim of improving the simulation and prediction quality of the models and also to obtain updated soil moisture products for monitoring that take advantage of both methods, remote sensing data and modeled soil moisture. Simulation and prediction runs can be configured using the OpenDA-HydPy coupling and to be carried out for the models HydPy-H Rhein375 (hourly value model, spatial resolution: 375 sub-areas) and HydPy-L Rhein (daily value model, spatial resolution: 2.5 x 2.5 km²). The data assimilation of H SAF soil moisture and H SAF soil moisture are included simultaneous runoff tracking compared to reference runs without data assimilation. The assimilation procedures of the Asynchronous EnKF (AEnKF) and Particle Filters (PF) anchored in OpenDA are for HydPy-H Rhein375 (only AEnKF) and HydPy-L Rhein (AEnKF and PF) in the Lahn catchment area, with subsequent evaluation of the improvement in the simulation and forecast quality at two exemplary gauges each. The objective of the present award requires in-depth Dealing with and processing H SAF soil moisture data in order to best fit them into the model structures of HydPy-H Rhein375 and HydPy-L Rhein and taking into account the respective conceptual representation of the soil moisture storage to incorporate. Position 1: Preparation, project processing schedule Position 2: Preparation of H SAF soil moisture data Position 3: Data assimilation of the H SAF soil moisture products with and without runoff tracking Position 3-1: Preparation of the Data assimilation Position 3-2: Integration of data assimilation methods in Delft-FEWS Position 3-3: Creation of simulations and retrospective forecasts Posit...
