As a transmission system operator in Germany, Tennet Germany operates critical infrastructures that ensure access to reliable, sustainable and affordable power supply. Tennet Germany is one of the largest investors in power grids in Germany and operates Germany The largest transmission network that extends over 14, 000 km and connects more than a third of the EU's entire offshore wind capacity.
Tennet plans to build one of the first electricity hubs (also called multiterminal hub) in Germany in the municipalities of Agethorst and Mehlbek: the Nordhub.
The Project was confirmed in the network development plan 2037/2045 and is part of the overall measure Nordostlink. The entire project, including the Nordhub, has been included in the federal requirements plan since 2022 and was expanded in 2024 with a amendment to the law. Tennet has the legal mandate for planning and structural implementation.
This means that Tennet will feed more electricity from offshore wind farms into the power grid and transport them in the south of consumption-strong south-from 2034 up to 4 gigawatts.
