4719F10401 - Identification and evaluation of processes that can arise from a repository at the same location for both highly radioactive and weak to medium-radioactive waste

Reference Number: Z 6 - BfE62220 / 4719F10401

Identification and evaluation of processes by a repository at the same locationrt can arise both for highly radioactive and for weak to medium-radioactive waste (GemEnd).

Within the site selection procedure within the scope of the preliminary safety investigations (vSU) according to - 27 (5) it should be checked to what extent in the respective area for the final storage of highly radioactive Waste (HAW) is to be expected, that the final storage of larger quantities sWeak and medium radioactive waste (LAW / MAW) is possible. This test within the framework of the vSU should take place both when selecting the sub-areas, the location regions and finally for the locations. In the sense of a transparent and science-based StandAV, this research project on the part of the BASE will promptly deal with this requirement as early as possibleof the StandAG. The long-term safety of the repository for the highly radioactive waste should always be in the foreground and must not be compromised, Interactions between the repository for HAW waste and the repository for LAW / MAW waste at the same location. Especially since the StandAG does not make any statements regarding the requirements for additional final storage of LAW / MAW wastes at the same location (-27 (5) StandAG)common disposal can occur at one location. The relevant coupled THMCB processes occurring here must be identified, evaluated and documented. These processes can be caused by the radiological and chemical inventory of the different types of waste as well as by the physical, chemical and geological properties of the geotechnical and geecological barriers can be controlled. Building on this, various generic representations for a common location of HAW and LAW / MAW waste in the host rocks rock salt, clay and crystal rock, and, if necessary, a combination of these, are to be developed. This is followed by an analysis with regard to the relevance of the processes for the research project questionAfter taking into account the currently known host rock-specific FEP catalogs for the host rocks in Germany.

A simple numerical basic model should ultimately contribute to a better understanding and better evaluation of the relevant THMCB processes for the long-term security of HAW waste in the individual host rocks. Using this exempIt should be possible to illustrate the spread of the selected coupled processes in the direction of a HAW warehouse and to be able to better evaluate them.
