3D Annotation Software
Reference Number: EU-OV / 2019-37-A
The Thuringian University and State Library (ThULB) is currently developing a competence center for 3D-Scan / 3D printing. For this purpose, the purchase, commissioning and support of various hardware and software solutions is necessary. For the post-processing of the 3D scans the development is oneSoftware for web-based, 3D-centered and automated annotation and correlation of metadata of digital 3D models. This should be connected to existing museum database systems (eg digiCULT) and used ontologies (eg GND, xTree). For detailed information, please refer to the enclosed project outline.
Goal and motivation: the Friedrich-Schiller-Universitaet Jena has the first research prototypes of robot-supported, autonomous and color-calibrated 3D digitizing technologies, which make it possible to automatically digitize large quantities in 3D. This lays the foundation for a possible strategy for the industrial 3D digitization of collections. The goal of the project 3ZAK is to create a web-based, 3D-centered andAutomated annotation and correlation of metadata and provenance data, which can be connected to existing museum database systems and ontologies used in Thueringen. For this purpose, a platform will be developed that intelligently networks various museum databases used in Thueringen, and a feature-based search and annotation of 3D modelslen across heterogeneous data. The future platform should be freely usable for academic and scientific purposes. The project will continue to work closely with groups such as IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework / www.iiif.io), the Khronos Group (www.khronos.org) and the Web3D Consortium (www.web3d.org X3D, VRML and H -Anim standards) to mitzhelp to establish standards in the field of 3D digitization and annotation. The duration of the project is calculated to 18 months. Now that the first workflows have been implemented in practice in several institutions, there is great demand for innovative approaches to handle the rapid growth of digital object repositories. Tendering Development TasksFurther development of a platform for the web-based, 3D-centered annotation of real objects with a backend which supports various ontologies and databases,
- development of interactive visualization, annotation and analysis functions (eg superposition of various scan data, Surveying, sections),
- calculation of similarity descriptors for beg geometry, textures, optical material properties to support feature-based search on heterogeneous data,
decimation of large model data for use on the web, preparation of interfaces for further processing of models via 3D printing, implementation of a data access and exchange strategy for the integration of existing heterogeneous databases,
- Integration of existing, heterogeneous databases in existing and exploring Thuringian cultural institutions to the backend of the further developed platform, - feature-based search by dynamic system alignment of classification schemes using similarity descriptors, development of taxonomic classification systems for the use case domains of Projekts,
- Development of semantic baseline models for annotations and technical metadata,
- Extension of existing documentation standards for the analysis and preservation of cultural heritage.
