X-ray small-angle scattering system
Reference Number: 2020 / 04-50080
The device to be procured primarily serves to clarify the structure of multiscale materials by means of diffraction measurements. These materials are a central component of the research program in the topic "Hybrid and Functionalized Structures" of the program-oriented sponsorsof the Helmholtz Association as well as in the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 986 "Tailor-made Multiscale Material Systems" and the research based on it in the Hamburg "Center for Integrated Multiscale Materials Systems" CIMMS. As the operating organizational unit, the working group Hybrid Material Systems (WMH) of the Institute for Materials Research, Mechanics of Materials at Helmholtz Zent isrum Geesthacht (HZG) embedded in these structures. The SFB 986 and the resulting research in CIMMS bundle material research in the field of multiscale materials at the locations Technische Universitaet Hamburg, HZG, Deutsches Elektronensynchrotron DESY, and Universitaet Hamburg. The laboratory measurements with small-angle scattering at WMH complement studies on the performancemore capable devices of the DESY. This also includes studies that are carried out regularly within the framework of the German Engineering Materials Science Center (GEMS) operated by HZG. The device to be procured is used to measure independent measurements as well as measurements with the aim of establishing procedures, sample quality and measurement protocols, which will then be available at DESY
Main Site: Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht
Basic device X-ray small and wide-angle scattering (SAXS / WAXS)
- Functional complete device for simultaneous high-resolution X-ray small-angle scattering (SAXS) as well as X-ray wide-angle scattering (WAXS), with all the hardware required for operation as well as software components;
- Functional integration of the additional cocomponents (WAXSMD, USAXS, GISAXS, see below) both hardware and software design for measurement with Mo and Cu radiation with fully automated change between the wavelengths; the change must be made without further user intervention and in particular without manual adjustment;
- microfocus sources for both types of radiation, each including collimation optics;
- closedCooling system for the X-ray sources, with heat exchanger or refrigerator thermostat, collimation and beam path;
- collimation of the primary beam via scatter-free screens, all 4 cutting edges can be moved independently of each other by motor;
- collimation path for the primary beam matched to the greatest distance between sample and detector (APD);
- Distance sample detector in the configuration with highestr Resolution at least 180 cm;
- complete beam path in a vacuum of 1 mbar or better;
- vacuum pump for the beam path;
- measuring device for the vacuum level detector small-angle scattering;
- 2D detector for high-resolution small-angle scattering with the following properties:
a) type "Single photon counting hybrid pixel detector",
b) suitable for both types of radiation, Mo and Cu,
c)Suitable for measuring the intensity in the direct primary beam, without beam catcher, regularly during the entire duration of each measurement,
d) high counting efficiency, in particular counting efficiency at least 75% for must radiation,
e) fully automated change of detector position,
f) with the largest APD angular resolution of a single pixel 0.006 degrees or better,
g) at least 300 000 pixels,
h)Equipped with a motorized protective window to protect the detector when it is not in use or when it is exposed to the atmosphere. Determination of the absolute intensity for small-angle scattering measurements. None of these may be used in routine operationCalibration test may be required. The absolute intensity must be quantified by continuously measuring the transmitted primary beam during the scatter measurement with the same detector; no filter or attenuator may be required for this, so that the accuracy of the absolute intensity is not due to beam hardening (shifting the wavelength spectrum)is punished. This functionality must be routinely available in daily operation.
Wide-angle scattering
- separate 2-D detector module, type "hybrid pixel detector", for measuring the wide-angle scattering simultaneously while small-angle scattering measurements are in progress;
- Scattering signal must be measurable up to a maximum scattering angle of at least 2 Theta = 55 degrees;
- second detector position fYour measurement with higher resolution, for example for a maximum scattering angle of 2 theta = 40 degrees.
Measuring range in reciprocal space (q range)
- System must enable SAXS / WAXS measurements with adjustable APD in order to cover an area of the scattering vector with Cu radiation, q, covering q = 0.015 nm-1 to q = 38 nm-1 or better without gaps. Automated setting of all necessary configurations;
- System must be able to achieve the variation of the APD required for complete coverage of the entire, just specified q-range while maintaining a fixed sample position, without compromising on the data quality. In other words, only the detector position along the beam propagation axis may be changed. "No compromises with dThe data quality here means in particular that the specified values of the q range and the azimuth range as well as the pixel-related angle resolution are retained without restriction;
- System must allow the automatic and continuous change of the configuration over the entire q range of the instrument specified for transmission measurements This has to be done by a coMeter-controlled continuous change of the distance between sample and detector over the entire area including the automatic adjustment of the system (no manual handling required and all settings controlled by software).
Sample chamber and sample positioning.
- Sample chamber with the following properties:
a) Internal dimensions at least 350 x 450 x 450 mm,
b) free spaceof at least (in relation to the sample position for regular measurements with SAXS and WAXS): at least / - 160 mm in the vertical direction, at least / - 200 mm in the horizontal direction and at least / - 100 mm in the beam propagation direction; The sample stage must remain functional and installed in its standard position,
c) Scattering measurements alternatively possible with a sample in vacuum or in air.In particular, the software-controlled, automatic change of the configuration (without manual user intervention) must be possible for measurements with the sample in air, and more than 3 orders of magnitude in q from a minimum control vector amount of q = 0.015 nm-1.
D) access into the chamber through 2 opposite large doors,
e) at least 2 free vacuum flanges for user configurationImplementations.
21. Specimen platform for specimen positioning in the specimen chamber with the following properties:
a) motorized in each of the two spatial directions, perpendicular to the beam,
b) traversing path in each direction at least 90 mm, positioning accuracy 1 -m or better,
