For a new process for producing fine spherical iron powders with a particle size of 15 μm, based on the granulation of iron oxide powder and subsequent reductionUnder hydrogen, a pilot line with a production capacity of up to 5 t per day for industrial scale production is to be scaled up. The starting material is an iron oxide powder with a Primaerpartikelgroesse in the range of 1 .mu.m, which is obtained from regenerated pickling sludge (waste product from the steel industry) can be used. The iron oxide is in eggner suspension dispersed, ground and then granulated to a size of 10-40 microns. The reduction takes place in a rotary kiln. Subsequently, the sinter cake is ground and sieved. Here, a spherical particle shape is sought. The principle proof of the manufacturing process has already been taken on a small scale by Ostec.

Ziel this AP is the procurement and commissioning of the system components required for the treatment and spray drying by the client.

Necessary work of the contractor:

- In the context of the specification and the procurement of the system technology the co-operation of the contractor is necessary. This includes the research of at least 3 possible suppliers and the supportPreparation of the specification for the design of the following plant engineering:

Plant a) Agitator ball mill for wet processing of raw materials, incl. peripherals for suspension preparation Search / Spec. to 06/2020 Planned commissioning 02/2021

b) Spray dryer for granulating the prepared suspensions Search / Spec. until 06/2020 Planned commissioning 02/2021

- Vote von work package 2.2:

The aim of this work package is the process steps wet processing and spray drying to achieve the desired suspension properties (d50 ≤ 1 μm, process stable, sprayable suspension) and the desired granule properties (spherical shape, homogeneous structure, the highest possible yield in size10 ... 40 μm) in preparation for the industrial pilot line.

After installation and commissioning of the system technology, the client must also provide technical support for the process and the training of the client`s personnel.

Necessary work of the contractor:

1 ) Optimization and production of iron oxide granules in small scaleRule

For reduction tests

- Production of iron oxide suspensions by means of agitating ball mill and determination of the parameters to achieve a particle size d50 ≤ 1 μm with the highest possible solids loading of the suspension (stable to processing, sprayable), - Production of test granules by spray drying, optimization of the yield.

In the size range 10 ... 40 μm by ParamEtarization and testing of various products

- Characterization of the test granules (granule size distribution, bulk properties, morphology),

- Production of approx. 50 kg iron oxide granules with optimized parameters for reduction tests (for the connection to the installation of the system engineering at the client), characterization and handover of the sample batch the client.

2)Technical support for retraction of processes

- Retraction of processes Preparation and granulation at the customer after installation and commissioning of the agitator ball mill and the spray dryer

- Transfer of the results from the optimization on a small scale (suspension and granule properties, yield), - Characterization of granule patternsthe commissioning phase, transmission of recommendations for further process optimization.

- Instruction of the client`s personnel in relation to suspension production (formulations, grinding parameters) and process control in spray drying.

Long-standing expertise in the field of powder technology, powder processing and processing is required especially in the fieldt the spray drying of iron oxide powders on a small scale or pilot scale. Comprehensive analysis and laboratory equipment (laser diffraction wet / dry, viscosity measurement, density determination, drying residue, pH value, zeta potential,

Schuett-, tapping density measurement, flow time, residual moisture, FESEM, granule cut, eg BIB) along the powder technological process chain must be presentbe.
