The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources intends to see aregular boat for carrying out environmental monitoring including sampling in the tropical East Pacific, in the German license area for exploring polymetallic tubers and in the license area of the Belgian company Global Sea Mineral Resources (GSR), using the open method. Monitoring is carried out as part of a GSR collector test. For the use of the collector wGSR will use its own ship, which will also operate near the ship advertised here. The working areas in which the offshore work is to take place are in international waters.
Main Site: East Pacific
The expedition is carried out under the password MANGAN 2020 and has the following objectives:
- Extensive environmental monitoring through visual insMeasurement and sampling on the seabed with a diving robot ("Remotely Operated Vehicle", ROV) and mapping with an autonomous underwater vehicle ("Automonous Underwater Vehicle", AUV),
- Fetching and deploying anchorages with sediment traps and flow sensors as well as a sensor network from oceanographic equipment
- Extensive removal of deep sea sediments and biologicalen Samples from the sea floor using a multicorer, large box grab, 5 m long gravity plummet and epibenthic sledge,
- taking water samples using a corona water heater and soil water sampler,
- video mapping of the sea floor using a multi-function slide (video, photo, sensor technology).
