Tender Details

Tenders are invited for Consultants (International and National) to Conduct the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices for Survival, Development, Education and Child Protection in Comoros.

CONTEXT

In the Comoros, children under 18 represent an important component of the population. They are estimated in 2016 to be close to 372, 000, or nearly 46% of the population [1] . Comoros is one of the developing countries where many children under the age of five are still dying from causes that, for the most part, are devastating. Indeed, despite a relatively favorable position compared to the countries of the sub-region, the infant mortality rate estimated at 50 deaths per thousand live births (50 €) still remains High [2] . The evolution of immunization coverage against measles has been on a downward trend over the past two decades, from 87% in 1990 to 78% in 2012.

UNICEF's assessment report on the nutritional status of children under five in the Comoros indicates that despite the government's efforts to fight malnutrition, the situation remains unclear. especially because of the poor practice of breastfeeding and feeding young children. From 1991 to 2012, the proportion of children with low birth weight went from 13.9% to 15.3%. Poor access to drinking water, the very limited use of quality hygiene and sanitation facilities in the Comoros are among the reasons for this malnutrition situation in the country. In addition, good hygienic practices within families and communities are not always assured. Otherwise,

The proportion of the population living below the poverty line is 42.4% in 2014. This results in a high percentage of children between the ages of 5 and 14 who are involved in the labor force. 36.2% (33.1% for boys and 39.3% for girls).

The examination of schooling profiles reveals a problem of access (one child out of 7 would not have access at all to school) and of retention during the primary cycle (25% of children leave before the end of the cycle) jeopardizing the achievement of universal primary education.

In order to better inform and sensitize the population on the problem of children's rights and the care to be given to them for their development, a second survey on knowledge, attitudes and practices (CAP), afterwards that of 2007, is planned nationwide to help people change their behavior for the full development of children and the well-being of women, especially in the areas of health, nutrition, hygiene and sanitation, education and their protection.

These various issues that are already addressed in the Strategy Paper on Accelerated Growth and Sustainable Development (SCA2D 2015 -2019) are areas of concern major in relation to the international and national commitments made by the State with respect to the rights of the child and around which awareness campaigns can be developed on the major issues of the rights of the child. ™ child in the Comoros .
