Tenders are invited for Consultant for Entrepreneurship and Small Scale Business Management Training in Baidoa.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
SHORT TERM CONSULTANT FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SMALL SCALE BUSINESS
MANAGEMENT TRAINING IN BAIDOA.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Save the Children International (SCI) is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to fight for children’s rights and deliver immediate and lasting improvement to children’s lives worldwide. SCI has been operational in Greater Somalia for over 40 years. Current programs straddle relief and development in various sectors including Health, Nutrition, Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Vocational and Skills Training, Education and Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL) working in Somaliland, Puntland and Southern States of Somalia to help communities cope with drought, conflict, displacement and flooding.
SC implementiimplementing ng an Integrated Lifesaving Assistance for drought and conflict-affected populations in Somalia which is funded by OFDA to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity in communities experiencing humanitarian crisis or that are food insecure.
SC intends therefore to support the most vulnerable groups to recover and restore their livelihoods. SC will support all target beneficiaries under this component with the livelihoods restoration and not venturing new opportunities. Targeted beneficiaries with previous knowledge and practice of small scale business and currently undertaking petty business activities, Save the Children will support beneficiaries restore their business and not startup up of new livelihood activities. The targeted beneficiaries will undergo an 80-hour of business skills and entrepreneurship training followed by regular mentoring activities. The training will be facilitated by local entrepreneurship consultants. The first 40 hours training will be delivered before commencement of their businesses and after undertaking a market survey to help the beneficiaries restore profitable business activities in their localities. This training will cover modules on introduction to entrepreneurship, record keeping, marketing, costing & pricing, completion, demand & supply, profit and loss calculation, business planning, business income versus personal expenditure etc. There will be a pre-test and post-test for this training. After the training, beneficiaries will receive a grant to re-establish their income generating activities. After 2 months into their business activities, beneficiaries will be given another 20 hours of training focusing on real challenges experienced by the beneficiaries in their businesses and how to overcome them. Learning will be facilitated by trainers but with more peer support to benefit from successful cases among the beneficiaries. A similar training will be offered 3 months after the second training.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK:
This assignment will be focus on training select community members on identification of viable business opportunities, planning, and startup in order to sustainably manage to promote household income diversification and economic growth. The duration of the training will be 6 days, with total of 200 participants comprising 3 groups (Group1: 66, Group2: 66 and Group 3: 68 participants).
3.0 The outcome:
The training will empower beneficiaries to identify and assess viable IGA opportunities in their communities, invest, start and manage sustainable income generation activities through application of entrepreneurial and business skills.
4.0 OBJECTIVE:
To provide Business management training to targeted poor households including IDPs, marginalized and poor host community groups in order to achieve significant diversification and economic growth of households in Baidoa; impart attitude, knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship to enhances household food security, restore their productive assets, increase their economic and self-resilience.
5.0 Methodology:
The overall training process will be highly experiential and participatory. The discourse approach involves various techniques including but not limited to Brainstorming, Interactive Q and A, Group work exercises Case study, Role play and business modeling. The 200 beneficiaries will undergo 6 days’ business training. The training will cover modules on introduction to entrepreneurship, record keeping, marketing, costing & pricing, completion, demand & supply, profit and loss calculation, business planning, business income versus personal expenditure etc. There will be a pre-test and post-test for this training.
Specifically, the consultant will undertake the following key tasks.
1. Conduct a needs assessment or access one from the program staff.
2. Analyze relevant project documents and market survey reports.
3. Present an inception training plan complete with Goals, objectives, topic and subtopics, methodology, session plans, teaching aids, activities and expected outcomes for each presentation.
4. Prepare a training program to include entrepreneurship, business training, marketing, basic bookkeeping and business planning.
5. Prepare session plans and handouts
6. Deliver the training through participative methodologies.
7. Administer daily feedback forms and end of training evaluation.
8. Write draft and final report –Include follow-up and implementation schedules as per provided report format.
6.0 DELIVERABLES:
1. 200 beneficiaries will be trained in Business and entrepreneurship.
2. Inception training plan
3. Business plans- individual or group- developed.
4. A comprehensive training report.
7.0 DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The duration of this assignment overall is 6 days including preparation and report writing?
Specific schedules will be agreed with the selected candidate.
8.0 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE OF THE CONSULTANT
To qualify for this assignment, the consultant
1. Have minimum degree in Economics Development or entrepreneurship or BA-com.
2. Certified training of trainers
3. Over 5 year’s training –informal and formal-
4. Demonstrated experience and proven record in undertaking similar assignments
