Tender Details

Tenders are invited for Conduct of a Study on the Analysis of the Drivers of Biodiversity Erosion in Gabon.

The French Development Agency (AFD) launched the BIODEV2030 initiative, coordinated by Expertise France and by WWF and IUCN. It is an experimental approach tested and implemented in 16 pilot countries with multiple socio-economic, environmental and geographic contexts. The main objective of the project is to better take into account biodiversity in strategic economic sectors in Gabon in order to reduce the pressures on nature in the next post-2020 decade.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
This study is part of the first stage of the project - the diagnosis - during which a scientific diagnosis of the pressures / threats to biodiversity at the national level will be prepared on
the basis of a robust scientific methodology making it possible to identify and prioritize the sectors of economic activity with the greatest impact on biodiversity. This methodology will be proposed by the Consultant and approved by the COPIL BIODEV2030 The results of this diagnosis will be used to conduct a discussion with the government and a multi-stakeholder dialogue, public, private and citizens, with a view to defining two key economic sectors exerting pressure on biodiversity, for which a scientific diagnosis and a specific dialogue will be carried out during the second stage.

EXPECTED RESULTS
The expected results at the end of this participatory study are as follows:
- Improved understanding of the main drivers of biodiversity decline and responsible economic sectors -quantification of the biodiversity footprint of different economic sectors,
- Identification of two (2) most strategic economic sectors and the most impactful in a way concerted action by all stakeholders in order to define the sectors on which the project will focus in order to carry out the second phase of in-depth diagnosis;
- Increased awareness of the private sector, the public sector and CSOs on their respective contributions to the decline of biodiversity according to the framework of the FPEIEA analysis

DURATION AND TIMETABLE OF THE STUDY
The study requires 70 man-days from the date of signature of the contract and will take place during the following period: Mid-January 2021 - Mid-April 2021.
