B. SCOPE OF WORK
The U.S. Embassy Monrovia is in need of a contractor to do civil work on a house on the Old
Embassy Compound.
1. Work shall include demolition of several existing walls as noted in the drawings to be
provided and all out structures.
a. Masonry and concrete to be disposed of on site, no chucks larger than 6”.
b. Rebar will be disposed of by the U.S. Embassy.
2. Raising of existing walls of central are to height as per drawings
a. As existing construction is unknown, contractor should expect to engineer the
connection of old wall to new.
3. Construction of new bedroom areas
a. Structure to be made of reinforced masonry, contractor to lay blocks to U.S.
Standards. (See Attached Details from the International Masonry Institute).
b. Mortar joints to be 3/8” (1cm), only high quality block of consistent size to be
used.
i. Training session to be held before construction initiated
c. Slab to be constructed of 3000 PSI concrete, with no more than a 5” slump.
i. Slab and footings to be laid over black construction grade plastic installed
on top of compacted sand.
d. Footings to be 8” thick and 16” wide and reinforced with 4 #4 rebar (1/2” or
12.5mm)

4. Replacement of roof structure
a. Roof profile and sloop to match drawings to be provided.
b. Roof trusses to be constructed of either metal, painted with three coats of high
quality primer, or rot resistant wood.
c. If trusses are wood, to be placed 24” on center. If metal, purlins to be installed 2
feet on center.
d. Roof to be decked with ½” plywood and covered by Ice and Water shield
(provided by Embassy)
