The Schlachthofquartier is an urban building complex northwest of the Innenstadt of Offenburg, at Wasserstrasse 22. The central building was built in 1905/06 in the historicist style and operated as a slaughterhouse until 2019. After the decision to change the use of the cultural monument, an urban development ideas competition for the slaughterhouse district was held in 2020/21, which K9 Architects Freiburg won with w p Landschaftsarchitekten. Sutter3 project developers from Freiburg created a usage concept in 2022 to further develop the slaughterhouse district into the CANVAS creative center. The first buildings on the site have already been converted.

Central monument protectionCurrent buildings, including the slaughterhouse building with 3000 m2 GFA and 1950 m2 NUF, must be renovated and repaired. The historical structure and the overall appearance will remain in their industrial character even after the construction work. Wall breakthroughs and openings will be approved by the monument authorityvoted. The slaughterhouse building is to be converted to be climate-neutral, partly with external insulation (roof) and partly with internal insulation (walls and floor).

It will be the Lph. 1 to 9 awarded, the fee zone is estimated at III.
