UNDP-MDG-00579 Recruitment of a consultant in charge of developing the release strategy of the joint project "Integrated funding for sustainable energies" Country: Madagascar Description of the mission: context Madagascar, fourth largest island in the world, is characterized by biodiversityunique and climate diversity ranging from wet regions to semi-arid areas. However, this natural wealth is seriously threatened by climate change, deforestation and excessive dependence on traditional energies, including wood-energy. The country is exposed moreFrequently to tropical cyclones, the rise in sea level, and the increased variability of precipitation. These phenomena exacerbate existing environmental problems, such as soil leosion, desertification and loss of biodiversity. On the energy plan, in 2022, the rateDACCCES to electricity from Madagascar Sereve at 36.1%, with notable differences between urban (10.9%) and rural (71.6%) areas in 2022 (World Bank data). Lelectricity represents only 3% of the energy mix, the biomass dominating consumption final denergy at 79% in 2017. Only2% of the Malagasy population has access to clean cooking technologies and energies in 2022. The electricity produced in Madagascar is mainly of fossil origin.
