As part of the "BillstedtZentrum redevelopment area", the Hamburg-Mitte district office intends to renew the urban space on Billstedter Hauptstrasse and redesign the street including the bicycle traffic facilities. Billstedter Hauptstrasse is predominantly geared towards through trafficand represents a clear break in the open space structure of the center. In order to reduce the separation effect and improve the quality of stay in the side areas, Billstedter Hauptstrasse is to be rebuilt. The existing cycle lanes on Billstedter Hauptstrasse were made provisionalh

applied to test the effects on vehicle traffic. At that time, they were not dimensioned appropriately for the bicycle routes or their upstream and downstream lines were not yet constructed to a sufficient extent.
