The Act on the Digitization of the Energy Transition (GDEW) has set a binding legal framework for the gradual modernization of the energy system. This stipulates the use of the smart meter gateway (SMGW) as a secure and standardized communication unit for the dataexchange. The GDEW aims for a broad and cross-sectoral application of the SMGW. The use of the SMGW is to extend across the areas of smart metering, smart grid, smart mobility, smart home and smart services.
The areas of smart grid and smart mobility are moving through an increasing Elecrification of the consumption side more and more into focus. An increased demand for electric cars and heat pumps combined with greater decentralization of generation and storage through PV systems and home storage poses new challenges for the energy system. At the same timeIt is a potential for flexibility that can be used to advantage on the consumer, market and grid side. Flexibility will become an important parameter of the future energy system.
The SMGW can be used as a key technology in a digitized energy systemtem, since using the tariff application cases (TAF) basically gives the possibility to react to changing network and market situations.
