Recruitment of a firm to conduct asituation analysis on access for adolescents to reproductive health andnutrition services and their related rights and development of a tailoredhealth intervention package for adolescents in Mauritania.Contract period: April 1rst, 2025 to March31, 2026 Introduction Investing in adolescentsand young people-s health is a priority for African countries to build humancapital and lay the foundations for sustainable economic growth. This willrequire, among other things, granting adolescent rights and decision-makingpowers, especially in the areas of access to health and nutrition services, particularly sexual and reproductive health services, and the age of marriage;especially when these topics are not discussed within the family.Indeed, adolescents and young people represent a significant percentage of thepopulation of African countries and constitute a vulnerable group that may beat risk of access to healthcare and nutrition services in general and sexualand reproductive health in particular, with significant consequences formorbidity and mortality in this group. Although youth is considered a period ofhealthy life, it is estimated that more than 1.4 million adolescents aged 10 to19 die each year and that 97% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-incomecountries, with even more suffering from diseases. Adolescence coincides withmajor changes that affect the determinants of adult health, and many adulthealth conditions are linked to factors that develop during adolescence. TheWorld Health Organization (WHO) estimates that nearly two-thirds of prematuredeaths and one-third of the burden of disease in adulthood are associated withconditions or behaviors that began in youth.InMauritania, the 10-19 and 10-24 age groups accounted for 24 percent and 33percent of the population, respectively, in 2024.
