Since the 18th legislative period (2014-2017), the German federal government has been neutralizing the climate impacts of the necessary business trips and trips of its employees with the climate neutralization measure of business trips and trips as well as events organized by the federal government and the federal administration. The compensation relates to the climate impact (including the non-CO2 effects) of all business trips and journeys undertaken by employees of the highest and higher federal authorities as well as other immediately subordinate authorities by plane or company vehicle. The aim of the compensation is to offset the climate impact of the emissions in question through emission savings elsewhere. With this measure, the federal government is making an additional contribution to climate protection, fulfilling its role model role for active climate protection and thus setting an important example for the market for voluntary compensation for greenhouse gas emissions.
