Implementation of the 2D pilot seismic

The Geological Service of North Rhine-Westphalia (GD NRW) was commissioned by the Ministry of Economics, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIKE NRW) to carry out a geothermal characterization of the deep subsurface as part of the geological survey in North Rhine-Westphaliaone-Westphalia. The present tender documents include the implementation of 2D seismic measurements to test measurement parameters under different geological subsurface conditions. As part of these so-called 2D pilot seismic measurements, three regions of North Rhine-Westphalia are to be carried outs different parameter configurations will be tested in order to create the best possible framework conditions for potential future seismic campaigns in these regions. The three regions are the Rhenish Revier near Stolberg and Eschweiler, the Paffrather Mulde near Cologneas well as the northern Ruhr area near Dinslaken. These regions have different geological subsurface conditions; in particular, the horizons that are potentially suitable for deep geothermal energy are located below sediment layers of different thicknesses. For use deWater-bearing carbonate rocks from the Carboniferous and Devonian ages are classified as potentially suitable for geothermal potential.
