Pakistan is a sovereign country and is located in South Asia. The population of Pakistan has exceeded 191million people and it is considered to be the sixth most populous country. The total area covered by this country is estimated to be around 796,095 square kilometers. It is known to be the world’s 36th largest country in terms of area. The coastline of Pakistan along the Arabian Sea as well as the Gulf of Oman on the south is somewhat estimated to be 1,046-kilometre. Pakistan shares its borders by India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, China in the far northeast and Iran to the southwest. Afghanistans narrow Wakhan Corridor in the north separates Pakistan from Tajikistan. The territory which constitutes today’s Pakistan was home to several ancient cultures previously and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of various cultures and faiths, including Hindus, Muslims, Indo-Greeks, , Turco-Mongols, Sikhs and Afghans. Pakistan was created in the year 1947 followed by the Pakistan Movement led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It became an independent nation for Muslims and initially adopted a new constitution in the year 1956, becoming an Islamic republic. A civil war that took place in the year 1971 resulted in the secession of East Pakistan and the formation of a new country called Bangladesh. Pakistan is believed to have the seventh largest standing armed forces in the entire world. It is also the only nation in the Muslim world and second in South Asia to be called a nuclear power as well as a declared nuclear-weapons state. The economy of the country is semi-industrialized in nature which has a well-integrated agriculture sector. In terms of purchasing power, its economy is the 26th largest in the world and 45th largest in terms of nominal GDP. Some of the major problems that this country faces till date include terrorism, poverty, illiteracy, corruption and overpopulation. Apart from that, the country has been involved in conflicts and political instability with the neirghbouring country India for quite some time now. The stock exchange of this country is believed to be one of the top ten in the world. Pakistan is a member of the United Nations, D8, UFC, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Next Eleven Economies, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ECO, Cairns Group, Kyoto Protocol,, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Group of Eleven, the G20 developing nations along with being the founding member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, CERN and SAARC. It is a developing country and the rate of development is quite rapid. In fact Pakistan is considered to be one of the next eleven countries that have a high potential to become the largest economy in the world by 21st cent.
