General: Covering 4.5% ofthe continent, the Zambezi River basin is one of the most important andvaluable natural resources in Africa. The waters of the basin are critical tosustainable economic growth and poverty reduction in the region. In addition tomeeting the basic needs of some 40 million people and sustaining a rich anddiverse natural environment, the re-sources of the Zambezi Basin play a centralrole in the economies of several countries in the region, especially Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The basin provides important environmentalgoods and services to the region and is essential to regional food security andhydropower production. The basin is however characterized by extreme climaticvariability resulting in the river and its tributaries being subject to a cycleof floods and droughts that have devastating effects on the people andeconomies of the region, especially the poorest sectors of the population.Objectives: The objectiveof this assignment is to take stock of changes in the basin and update currentchallenges, opportunities and prioritized investments using the Zambezi BasinMulti-Sector Investment Opportunity Analysis (MSIOA) as a baseline. Additionally, the assignment seeks to deep dive on Lake Kariba to use an evidence-based, participatory approach to assess the socio-economic impacts of the declining fisheriespopulation and to strengthen the climate change resilience of communities, institutions and biodiversity in the Zambezi Watercourse.The proposed scope of worksincudes:Part A - Update MSIOA Analysis of TheZambezi River Basin· Secondary data collection and analysis· Sectoral Assessments: What has changedsince 2010?· Policy and institutional review · Stakeholder engagement · Update multi-sector investmentopportunities in the ZRB and recommendations for regional cooperation frameworkto realize these opportunities.· Provide options to strengthen theclimate change resilience of communities, institutions and biodiversity in theZambezi Watercou...
