X-Ray Fluorescence Core ScannerSOURCES SOUGHTThe U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing an X-ray Fluorescence Scanner as described in the Salient Characteristics listed below. This Sources Sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information in response to this notice. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 334516 Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing and associated size standard 1, 000 apply to this announcement, along with PSC code 6645 Time Measuring Instruments. All responsible sources may submit a capabilities statement detailing the ability of their service to meet the statement of work included with this announcement. Salient Characteristics1. An X-ray fluorescence core scanner capable of analyzing both marine sediment and mineral cores2. The XRF should have the ability to analyze both wet and dry cores3. The XRF should have the ability to analyze elements from magnesium through uranium or better with high precision and sensitivity to both heavy and light elements4. The XRF should have the ability to analyze samples up to 1.5 m in length at 1 mm resolution or better5. The XRF should have appropriate safety shielding for x-rays 6.
