BACKGROUNDThe WHO Western Pacific Regional Committee adopted the Regional Action Plan on Healthy Ageing in October 2020. It aims to support all Member States in the Western Pacific Region to achieve the vision for Healthy Ageing. Social prescribing is one of the recommended actions in the plan, as it can help to provide a more holistic care to older people, as well as reduce social isolation and improve community participation among older people.WHO developed and released a Toolkit on how to implement social prescribing in communities, and an online training course (in English) for link workers. These resources aim to support Member States in implementing social prescribing as a mechanism for connecting health and non-health sectors to deliver integrated care for older adults.The online OpenWHO course on social prescribing focuses on training of prospective link workers. Through course registration, WHO aims to improve the understanding of the role of social prescribing and the link workers in the Western Pacific Region.
