Tenders are invited for Training Consultancy : Consultancy for Training in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions - West Bank.

Project background:

MdM is implementing a project in the governorates of Nablus, Salfit, Qalqilya and Tubas, including the North Jordan Valley, with the objective of mitigating the impact of conflict related violence in the mental health and the psychosocial wellbeing of the population. The intervention includes among other activities, emergency MHPSS (Mental Health Psycho Social Support) after critical events as well as resilience-based activities. In addition to the current existing but limited internal and external referral options MdM is planning to put in place a low intensity intervention mobile unit within its technical team to provide more specialized non-medical mental health services to those in need and without other alternatives for referral due to unavailable local services or restrictions of movement to services available in other areas due to economical or security reasons. As part of the coming phase within the program MdM will train the MHPSS technical team on the use of Low Intensity Psychological Interventions to scale up the type or services provided at field level.



2. Objective of Consultancy



The main objective of this consultancy is to provide training to MdM MHPSS team (5 Social Workers and 1 Psychologist) on Low Intensity Psychological Interventions. By the end of the training they should be better equipped to:

1. To provide quality training on the WHO developed intervention “Problem Management +” (PM+) to be implemented among the communities affected by critical incidents related to the settlers- violence and in need of specialized services;

2. To provide on the-job-supervision in the identification and management of priority mental health conditions to MdM MHPSS team in line with WHO Guidelines on Low Intensity Psychological Interventions and in coordination with the Mental Health Program Manager.

3. To provide advanced training to one member of the MdM MHPSS team as supervisor for the Low Intensity Psychological Interventions Unit.



Methodology:

The methodology to be used during the training should be participative and interactive with key theoretical input. The consultant is expected to work in collaboration with the Mental Health Manager, the Medical Coordinator and the Field Coordinator for all technical and operative issues. He/She is expected to conduct the sessions in Arabic.



Tasks

o Development of training curriculum including theoretical knowledge on psychopathology based on WHO mhGAP, PM+ intervention techniques and advanced counselling skills, use of WHO guidelines and intervention protocols, tools for data collection, analyses and referrals, and TOT module.

o Preparation of initial Agenda for a total of 8 days (40 hours) of practical-theoretical training, distributed in four weeks, two days per week.

o Preparation of activity plan for a total of 40 hours of on the-job-supervision and training with the MHPSS team.

o To share the draft agenda, the planned activities and the theoretical presentation in advance, according to the schedule, with the Medical Coordinator, the Field Coordinator and the Mental Health Program Manager

o To conduct training and implement on-job sessions.

o To provide an adapted manual of the existing PM+ guidelines, in Arabic at the end of the training.

o To provide a final report.
